4. What should I use to clean my blades?

Corona recommends that you use a small amount light oil (machine oil, vegetable oil or something similar) and fine steel wool to clean your blades.

5. How should I maintain my Corona tools to keep them in good working order?

Proper care of your tools will make your investment last and add benefit to your gardening experience. Here are some guidelines to follow:

  • Clean your tools after each use. Wipe the handles, blades, forks and edges with a clean cloth. Use soap (Lysol® and Pine Sol® are safe) to loosen dirt and crusted material. Fine steel wool and a light oil can also be used on the metal blades to remove rust and stains. Be careful not to use some cleaners, such as bleach solutions, that may damage the metal parts of your tools.
  • If the tool has an edge, sharpen it with a sharpening tool, such as the Corona AC 8300, file or sharpening stone. Shovel blades can be periodically sharpened to improve digging performance.
  • Coat blades with a light oil such as machine oil, silicon spray, vegetable oil or something similar.
  • Store your tools in a safe, dry location, preferably kept locked or secured from children.

12. Why doesn't the saw blade move up and down when I pull on the rope of my tree pruner?

Tree pruners have two methods for cutting branches.

One is a bypass pruning blade and hook, which is used for cutting branches up to about 1" in diameter. When the rope on the tree pruner is pulled, the blade moves across the hook cutting the branch. To use this feature, reach up in the tree with the pruner, hook a branch, and then pull the rope. The blade will come from underneath the branch to cut it.

The other method is a pruning saw. It is used for cutting branches greater than 1" in diameter. In order to use the saw, you simply move the pole up and down; pulling on the rope does not cause the blade to move. It is not necessary to attach the saw blade in order to use the bypass blade feature. When using the saw blade, ensure that it is securely attached.
