Why doesn't the saw blade move up and down when I pull on the rope of my tree pruner? Tree pruners have two methods for cutting branches. One is a bypass pruning blade and hook, which is used for cutting branches up to about 1" in diameter. When the rope on the tree pruner is pulled, the blade moves across the hook cutting the branch. To use this feature, reach up in the tree with the pruner, hook a branch, and then pull the rope. The blade will come from underneath the branch to cut it. The other method is a pruning saw. It is used for cutting branches greater than 1" in diameter. In order to use the saw, you simply move the pole up and down; pulling on the rope does not cause the blade to move. It is not necessary to attach the saw blade in order to use the bypass blade feature. When using the saw blade, ensure that it is securely attached.
